Politically-motivated AAUW/Ohio members have the opportunity to participate in lobbying state legislators with the League of Women Voters Ohio.  LWVO holds brown-bag Lobby Lunches on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month from October through June.  AAUW/Ohio members might prefer to attend the fourth Tuesday Lobby Lunch because the LWVO education specialist attends on that day.  Fourth Tuesday Lobby Lunches will be held on:  Jan. 23, Feb. 27, March 27, April 24, May 22 and June 26.

AAUW/Ohio and LWVO issues overlap especially in the areas of education and reproductive freedom.  At the brown-bag Lobby Lunches attendees receive updates on current legislation and plan strategy.  On occasion, a speaker is invited to share information about a topic of current import.  Generally, AAUW/Ohio members try to schedule meetings with a legislator or attend committee hearings after the lunch. Any interested AAUW/Ohio member is invited to participate.  Because they do not have far to drive, those living within an hour drive of Columbus are especially urged to consider participating.  If interested, please contact Ruth McGaha, co-public policy chair at warpv@sbcglobal.net.

LWVO will stage its annual "Statehouse Day" on Thursday, March 29, at the Riffe Center in Columbus from 9:15 a.m. to 3 p.m. John Corlett, director of Public Policy and Advocacy at the Center for Community Solutions, will keynote. Five workshops will be offered on: health care, election reform, education funding, watershed protection/factory farms, and home rule/gun violence. An opportunity to visit legislators will also be offered. AAUW members are encouraged to participate. For details, read the registration form.
