Since 1981 the AAUW Legal Advocacy Fund has helped students, faculty, staff, and administrators in higher education challenge discriminatory practices—practices such as sexual harassment, denial of tenure or promotion, pay inequity, and inequality in women’s athletics programs.
What does LAF do? Because equity is still an issue, the LAF works to achieve equity for women in higher education by recognizing innovative efforts to improve the climate for women on campus; by offering assistance to women faculty, staff, and students who have grievances against colleges and university; and by supporting sex discrimination lawsuits. LAF has four major programs to promote equity for women in higher education:
